New Release!

Dave Geister and Gwenyth Swain- At Red Balloon Release party with ModelsRiding to Washington, my latest book, written by the wonderful St. Paul author, Gwenyth Swain, was just released last month and I have photographs to prove it!

Our friends at The Red Balloon Bookshop in St. Paul hosted a fantastic release party, and Gwenyth appeared dressed in perfect early 1960’s attire. I showed up in my old Marine Corp B.C glasses and an original wool shirt (the best I could manage to find in short order).

The highlight of the day was the chance to introduce my models to the assembled crowd. I could not paint the illustrations for these books without the kind assistance of my models, all of whom were handpicked by my "casting agents" - my dear wife, Pat Bauer, and my dear neighbor, Rebecca Felland-Syring. Rebecca’s family all appear in Riding to Washington.

Dave at Bamber Valley Elementary Schol in Rochester, MnSchool Visits

I had the pleasure of spending the day at three great schools over the last few weeks: Bamber Valley Elementary in Rochester, MN; Greenwood Elementary in River Falls, WI; and Washington Elementary in Mankato, MN. The teachers, librarians, students and parents were a real joy, and I look forward to a week-long Artist-in-Residence program I will be doing at Richardson Elementary, St. Paul, MN, at the end of March. I get a real burst of energy from interacting with the folks at these schools!

Jane Gibbs at Cloud Man's VillageGibbs Farm

I just delivered 4 paintings of early Minnesotan Jane Gibbs to the good people at Ramsey County Historical Society. These pieces will be reproduced as a mural to be used onsite at the Gibbs Museum of Pioneer and Dakotah Life, and can be seen on May 11th. Please be sure to stop by and visit this site, one of Minnesota’s hidden gems.

What’s next? My wife has finished writing the first draft of a picture book for Sleeping Bear Press, so I can expect to begin sketching any day now. This book will take me back to one of my first great passions, and all I can tell you now is that I will be painting lots of blue and gray . . .
